Calpundit.com was founded by Kevin Drum, a passionate journalist and writer whose insightful commentary and dedication to truth shaped this platform. Born on October 19, 1958, in Long Beach, California, Kevin was the son of Jean Drum, a retired fourth-grade GATE teacher who taught ESL at Golden West College, and Dale Drum, a speech and communications professor at Cal State Long Beach who passed away in 1991. Kevin grew up in Garden Grove, California, alongside his older sister, Karen, who worked in publications for the Orange County Performing Arts Center, and his younger brother, Steve, a physics instructor at Pierce College in Woodland Hills, CA.
Kevin’s academic journey began at Caltech, where he studied math for two years before transferring to Cal State Long Beach. There, he served as city editor of the Daily Forty-Niner and earned a journalism degree in 1981. His career spanned technical writing, high-tech marketing, where he served as VP of Marketing and general manager of the software division at Kofax Image Products for nine years and consulting for Streaming21 in Silicon Valley. A man of many talents, Kevin was also an avid tennis player, a voracious reader, a creator of Windows utilities for friends, and a devoted cat lover, sharing his home with his beloved brown tabby, Jasmine, and black-and-white goofball, Inkblot.
Kevin married Marian, a systems analyst at Lantronix, in 1991, and together they built a life filled with love and shared passions. Tragically, Kevin Drum passed away on March 7, 2025, at the age of 66. His loss is deeply felt, but his legacy of thoughtful, incisive journalism lives on.
At Calpundit.com, we are committed to honoring Kevin’s vision by continuing to post relevant, thought-provoking news and commentary. We strive to uphold his dedication to clarity, fairness, and truth in all that we do. Thank you for joining us as we carry forward Kevin’s mission to inform, engage, and inspire.
