GOOD FOR THE GOOSE....Andrew Stuttaford over at The Corner tonight: Tuesday
morning: 'White House officials' under attack for releasing the name of
someone who may or not have been a covert CIA agent.
Tuesday afternoon: White House announces that it will not declassify
those 28 mysterious (Saudi! Saudi!) pages in the 9/11 report.
Hopefully, the Plame blame game will not uncover any wrongdoing, but
if it does, it will be difficult for the administration to resist the
complaint that it discloses what it shouldn't and doesn't disclose what
it should.
Yes, it will be hard to resist that complaint, won't it?

I just checked some conservative sites. They've sure been on a high
horse about ethics for a good decade or so, it's easy to just call other
people names, but strangely, they're almost all quiet about Plame,
while the rest of the world talks about it. The appropriately-named USS
Clueless, who can expend 18,273,927 words about how to microwave a
burrito, hasn't said a word about it. And National Review has done a
couple of pieces about it, one saying it's no big deal to blow an
agent's cover, the other, new one, saying that it's Wilson's fault for
provoking the White House. Like they say, the helmsman is recognized in
the tempest. These guys are drowning.
Well, I just saw a posting on another blog where someone suggested
that the person who outed Plame might be protected under whistleblower
laws, for blowing the whistle on "nepotism" in the CIA.
Looks like flailing around to me.
Only a matter of time now before some Republican apologist invokes
the "no controlling legal authority" defense. That's when we'll know
they're toast.
Actually, I think Republicans are getting a pretty good idea of who the controlling legal authority is.
I'm hoping the ultimate authority on all this gets to be us next November.

If there was wrongdoing, hopefully it will.
And there was wrongdoing.
This is not partisan, kiddies. This is about something very close to
proactively subverting the national security of the United States.
As in identically very close.
If the missing pages in the report state clearly that the Saudi
government, or individuals highly placed in, actually financed, planned,
or otherwise aided 9/11, the Bush Administration's entire focus on Iraq
is shown to be false. The real target should have been the House of
Saud. There will be a groundswell of opinion in America that we have
fought the wrong war, and squandered our resources, when there was
another war we should have fought instead.
