THE CHURROS BATTLE HAS FINALLY BEEN WON....Who says the California legislature is useless? Not me. First they ban spam, and now they've passed a bill to allow street vendors to sell delicious, piping hot churros. No more reheated churros for us!
That good eating, my friends, mighty good eating....

Think os it as a long, soft, fried, hot pretzel dipped in cinnamon and sugar.
Sort of.
They used to be magnificent at old Comiskey Park.
Does the law apply to tamales?
Are they going to let them fill them with dulce de leche?
>Think os it as a long, soft, fried, hot pretzel dipped in cinnamon and sugar.
In Spain they serve them without the sugar and cinammon, but with thic rich chocolate to dip them in.
Churros Battle. I must have missed that one. Was it the one where Michiba takes on that Mexican chef?
Direct Democracy gone awry and now sugared, fried dough on demand?
What a state!
I'm surprised the right-wingers haven't showed up here whining about "COURTING THE MECHA VOTE" or something.
--Kynn, loves churros, a bit too much
Why hasn't the legislature denounced the racist ideas of Churros? It's almost as if they're racists themselves...

Oh boy, fried lard! Did you know that Churros are 70% pure fat?

Churros are Spanish doughnuts.
I miss Churros since leaving California. I have found a pretty good substitute though - Indian fry bread, with honey.
Charles: only 65 calories? How do they define "serving"? One bite?
Surely California isn't the only place in America where you can get a
churro... You can get one at the Wisconsin State Fair... I thought
everyone had access to a decent source of churro.
Well, I've never heard of them, and I've lived in South Texas and now the Bay Area. Don't they have them in San Fran?
Hmmmm. Mexican Doughnut.
I presume they measure a serving the same way they do with potato chips. There are 5000 servings in a standard bag of chips.
the best churro i ever had was at sea world san diego circa 1985.
Charles - you can decrease the calories of fat to calories of
carbohydrate ratio by increasing the amount of sugar. For you Atkins
people, just eat the lard.
MMMMMMMM churros!!
>Senor Homer
I grew up in California and I LOVE CHURROS!!!
I think the Mexican chef took Michiba out in that one.
Oddly enough, when I lived in NY, Kmart of all places had Churros in
their little food court. Only a patch on real Churros, of course, but
edible anyhow.
Churros are all over NYC, mostly vendors set up in subway stations. But never freshly made, alas!
Apparently my culinary education has been shortchanged. But I just knew, I knew that the Dems and Repubs could agree on things.
I can see it now: a final showdown between churro lovers and the kult
of the Krispy Kreme. Deep-fried sugar saturated dough that tastes good
only fresh and piping hot.
Aw, Tim Horton's apple fritters beat them all hollow anyway.
First of all I am not the imposter David who asked what a churro is
and who with all due respect presumably lives someplace like the
Whitebread Town they sang about in the South Park movie (wasn't that a
great movie, incidentally?)
I have thrice in my life had any problem with vendor food (i.e. it
made me puke), and only once in America (at the Watts Towers Festival -
this Sunday, incidentally; be there!), and the common ingredient of all
three times was MEAT. So I should think fresh churros shouldn't be a
problem (although I understand that Mexian cheese can be, no?).
The best Churros I've had are at the bakery in the Bazaar del Mundo in Old Town San Diego.
Unfortunately, I have yet to recover from the trauma of spending a
summer working at a Knott's Berry Farm churros cart. Can't even stand
the sight of the things ;)
What a week for bipartisan politics!
We all love sugar coated fat and hate telemarketing.
Fresh churros? Yum. An excellent dessert after getting a Double Double from In 'N Out.
Stale churros are bloody awful.
David -
I lived in the bay area until last year... and, with all due respect,
presumptions often lead people to false assumtions (besides who wants
to be called "presumptuous").
Imposter? No, just don't have time to deal with spam!
Sometimes I think I should start sprinkling my postings (and maybe my speech, too) with smileys. :>)
But it's really not me somehow :>P
Interestingly enough, the bill was authored by deeply white-bread and
deeply conservative Placer County's assemblyman, Tim Leslie (R-Tahoe
City).
Just your piece of trivia for the day.
WHere can I buy churros in Manhattan, Brooklyn or Jersey City/Hoboken/Union City? I need to know ASAP.
Thanks!
